Supporting Local Communities

King Valley is a region rich with character; the people, the landscape and the history make up a vibrant community. Tourism plays an important part in the community, often focused on food and wine, the King Valley Challenge offers a unique event for the region.

The race director Liam Delany grew up in the region, and wants to show the 'Valley' off to the multi-sport world. It's a great place to race, train, eat and drink. As part of Vigor events philosophy we aim to involve and support the local community in any way we can through the running of the King Valley Challenge.

The King Valley Kitchen Garden Program

Five local Primary schools; Edi-Upper, Greta Valley, Mohyu, Myrrhee and Whitfield have a kitchen garden program teaching the children about growing, preparing and eating healthy food. Our event is very happy to be supporting this program as it's a proactive way to get the next generation thinking about health and fitness.

The King Valley Challenge is a major fundraiser for the program and you can help raising money just by joining in, here's how:

  • The event pays $10 for every local entry in the KVC
  • The event pays $10 for everyone that does the 6km walk/run
  • Children under 15 pay a gold coin donation to do the 6km run/walk
  • The program is paid $50 for every volunteer
  • All event cafe proceeds go to the program

Last year we raised over $1000, but there's no reason why we can't raise double that if more people get involved!

The Mountain View Hotel in Whitfield is the ideal spot to eat and drink after a days exercise

What a great way to promote a healthy lifestyle, makes you want to move your family to the King Valley!
